The seas were good overnight. Not a lot of creaking and cracking going on. This morning we're making between 18-19 knots which is considerably better than what we have been doing. Later in the morning, the average speed has lowered to 17-18 knots, but the seas are still OK.
This morning we went up to LaVeranda since it is Monday and we did have our weekend special breakfasts last weekend. There were strawberries but no chocolate croissants. Debbie got strawberries and Smacks cold cereal. It must have been the International version, because it did not taste alot like the kind at home. Debbie was left wanting and developed a craving for peanut butter toast. Now, there is no peanut butter on any menu nor have we ever seen any out anywhere. The waitress noticed Debbie looking around and asked if she could get her something. Debbie asked if there is peanut butter. She replied, of course, inside. I'll get you some. Debbie went to get toast. Debbie had come back and melted the butter on her whole wheat before the peanut butter arrived. Now, Debbie is a picky eater. She is about peanut butter the way some people are about wine or beer. So... It was different, first off, no argument there, even Clay noticed it did not look like the pb at home. It was darker, grainier, and oilier looking. Debbie dipped a little on the knife and sniffed it. She got caught by the waitress, who stared at her with an appalled expression. Debbie couldn't stop laughing and could not continue her scrutiny of the little bowl of pb while being scrutinized herself. The waitress had other things to do and blinked first. Debbie had just returned to her examination and had just licked a bit off the end of the knife when the waitress returned with her appalled expression and declared to Debbie that it IS peanut butter. Again, Debbie cracked up laughing and told her that she knew it was. Clay had to go get some toast himself by now, because it was too big a serving for Debbie to finish alone. It turned out it was too big a serving for both of us together. It did hit the spot for Debbie but, it was not Peter Pan!
We have started to see lots of flying fish, huge schools (or flocks?) of them. This is what we remembered from our previous long cruise where we saw such schools in the Indian Ocean.
Debbie took morning and afternoon classes and got 2 loads of laundry done in between. So, she has had a busy day.
We went together to Jamie's cooking demonstration in the Horizon Lounge. He cooked his famous pork tenderloin with help from Chef Mike. It was tragically humorous. They were video taping it for Voyager Today and hopefully it will come with a don't do this at home warning.
This afternoon around 4pm. Capt. Dag had a prearranged at-sea rendezvous with an old friend of his. It was the captain of the Tasmania, a car carrier ship of Wilhelm Wilhenius. The ship and building we had photographed in Fremantle. The Captain joked that he was putting Kenny Smiles off the ship early because of him putting a toilet plunger on his head at his 50th B-day roast. We were stopped for about 2 hours total to exchange caviar and champagne from Voyager for stock fish from Norway from the other captain. The other captain refused Kenny and so he got sent back. The two ships got within about 30 feet of each other. We were not up for the midnight rendezvous of Mariner and Voyager on the Panama Canal leg, but apparently the seas were too rough then for the ships to get that close to one another. There were probably only 30 people on the other ship and it was big. It was a little shorter than us, but taller and broader. It was also much faster than us. By sunset, it was out of sight. It is headed to Singapore and we are headed to Bali. We were are traveling in the same general direction at this point.
Tonight was Informal again. We dressed and went to Compass Rose but there was not much to tempt us. Jamie's famous pork tenderloin recipe was served along with his accompanying wild rice, Spider Lake Slaw and Dijon sauce. (Mike insisted on the sauce and it was not part of Jamie's original recipe.)
